With Dubya giving his State Of The Union yesterday, time to recall on the Costs of Iraq. The Oxford Research Group said in December that about one in twelve US troops stationed long-term in Iraq since the invasion have been evacuated to the USA for medical treatment of one kind or another. Thats about 11,000 troops. 2,273 were due to "battle injuries", including a large number of amputees. (Body armour saves lives but does mean a larger number of seriously injured survivors). About 3,800 were airlifted home because of non-combat injuries (road accidents and so on). Another 5,000 were evacuated for other health problems, both mental and physical...
